Schuylerville Time of Year

This is the time of year for the battles of Saratoga followed by the siege of Saratoga (now Schuylerville) which led to the British surrender on October 17th, 1777. The area was "owned" by Phillip Schuyler at that time and he had a country home and business enterprises in the area where Fish Creek empties into the Hudson River.

The original house was burned by the retreating British as they crossed Fish Creek to prevent its use by the pursuing Americans. Schuyler had the current house built immediately after the surrender and it was completed in about a month.

The house and grounds are now a part of Saratoga National Historical Park and any photos made there are included in the park gallery. This weekend had reenactment encampments representing both British and Americans. Today's visit to the area included a portion of the Champlain Canalway Trail, Hudson Crossings Park and Saratoga Apples orchard. Here are some samples.
