I walked up the Champlain Canalway Trail north from Waterford twice this week. Yesterday, I drove over to the Waterford Post Office rather than walk from home so that I could get further up the trail before heading back. Even without the walk from home, it was a 4.25 mile round trip up to Schoolhouse Lane and back. I think I'll do this more often and as my walks get longer I can get to the section above Schoolhouse Lane which is more isolated and actually adjacent to canal remnants.
First, without leaves on the trees you can get a good view of the landslide which happened in May 2020. Here is a post from the time on CNN.com. https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/04/us/new-york-waterford-landslide-trnd/index.html
You can see in this image from today that there was some additional sliding after the article.
I was hundreds of yards away but the 600mm lens I was carrying has quite the reach. Following are some shots from my two trips, some with a 35mm lens and some with the 600mm lens. It will be easy to tell which is which.
