I was out for short sessions with the new camera yesterday and today. The weather has been great with sun and temperatures in the high 40s and low 50s. 

Yesterday, I walked along the Champlain Canalway Trail with the EF 70-300mm lens and used the monopod for steadying. Here are some cattails, single file images rather than HDR composites from bracketing. 

Today, I visited a different section of the Canalway Trail and Saratoga National Historical Park. The tour road is closed for the winter, which seems a bit unnecessary given the weather. The Neilson Farm, however, is only a short walk from a parking area not on the tour road. 

I forgot my tripod and monopod today so I limited myself to the 16-35mm lens. Two facets of the 5Ds R make my usual method, hand held bracketing, problematic. The 50.6 megapixel resolution means either shutter speeds need to be higher or the camera needs to be mounted on something, even with image stabilized lenses. The 5Ds R also only shoots at 5 frames per second so shooting 5 bracketed frames takes at least a full second. 

I suspect I will end up processing more single files and may also bracket 3 frames at plus and minus 1 1/2 EV rather than 5 frames at plus and minus 1 EV. It will take some experimenting. But there is no denying the value of the high resolution of the 5Ds R.
