As I wrote after getting back from Burlington, "the six day trip was very useful for helping me decide on a gear path going forward." Here's how that has played out.

I had left the 5DS and 90D bodies home for that trip, only using the 5DS R. That was fine and I have sold both of those bodies. 

I had left the 70-300mm lens home. I missed having that lens so it is back in the bag. Placed in storage for the time being are my 8-15mm fisheye and 24-70mm f/4 zoom lenses.

My intention was to pick up a refurbished 5DS R body, which would cost less than my trade in for the 5DS and 90D bodies. The 5DS would have been fine to keep but it had an intermittently malfunctioning AFON button on the back of the camera which was annoying me.

But, the 5DS R was introduced in early 2015 and the availability of refurbished bodies seems to be diminishing rapidly so after a week of checking the Canon Direct listings, I decided to once again get into the Canon EOS R series with the original R model from late 2018. 

I previously had a pair of EOS RP bodies so the EOS R is both familiar and yet significantly more capable than the RP. It doesn't have the resolution of the 5DS R but it has a lot of other advantages. I anticipate using both bodies going forward.

This morning, I dug out my EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens for a walk over to Waterford with the EOS R. It's a nice light weight combination although it lacks image stabilization. I wanted to use the 50mm focal length again after having the 28mm and 85mm f/1.4 lenses as options on recent trips. A future possibility may be to sell both of those lenses and get a really nice RF 50mm f/1.2 lens.
